Leading the New Zealand U18 Junior rankings and set to compete in the World Junior Champs is Exit team rider Georgia Wederell, a highly competitive a likeable girl from Mount Maunganui.
Growing up in South Shore, Christchurch, Georgia spent her formative years sharing waves with her Dad on his board. Over time, as her love for surfing kept growing, she was tearing up her own waves with him and all the boys at the local beachies, running off to Indo when Winters arctic-like temperatures would set in!
Impressing the crew here with her surfing ability from an early age, she has been an Exit Surf team rider for roughly 8 years, and we have been absolutely thrilled with her results! Like any young frother, she openly states that she loves being out there and doing what she loves in the ocean.
“North Wai Boardriders introduced me to competitive surfing and with the ongoing support from Exit surf, Captain Fin Co and Rip Curl New Zealand I currently am finishing this contest season the top-ranked U18 girl in New Zealand, securing a spot in the New Zealand Junior team.”
This year Georgia plans to spend a few months in Bali, and the surrounding islands, preparing for the Vissla World Junior Surfing Championships to held in her mums home town of California.
The VISSLA ISA Juniors is the premier world championship for crowning 18 and under Surfing World Champions and will be held from October 26 to November 3. The event has awarded Gold Medals that launched the careers of numerous stars of the sport, including Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), Jordy Smith (RSA), Filipe Toledo (BRA), Caroline Marks (USA), Julian Wilson (AUS) and Tyler Wright (AUS).
We wish her luck and all our support against the worlds best!
